1. I don\u2019t speak a word of French and\/or English. Can I still register for the summer programs?  <\/h2>
\n

Of course! The Non-Credit Language Courses offer six (6) different levels in their summer programs, from beginner to advanced levels. Participants’ level is evaluated online OR at the Linguistic Competencies Evaluation Center (Centre d’\u00e9valuation de comp\u00e9tences linguistiques, CECL) before the beginning of the chosen program. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

2. How many students are there in each class?<\/h2>
\n

There is a maximum of 12 students per class.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

3. Are there activities organized after school hours?<\/h2>
\n

Yes! At the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses, we offer a variety of activities and outings allowing participants to discover Montr\u00e9al and its surroundings.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

4. What should I expect on my first day\u00a0in a class?<\/h2>
\n

Upon arrival, an overview of the chosen program and activities is presented to all participants. The participants will meet the teacher who will be assisting participants throughout the experience. Other participants registered at the same program will also attend to this event.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

5. Do I get a diploma or a certificate from UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses’ summer programs upon completing the course?<\/h2>
\n

Yes. A few weeks after the end of the program, students who have completed a summer program will receive (by mail) a Certificate of Course Participation stating their final grade.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

6. Is it possible to obtain university credits for this course?<\/h2>
\n

There is no academic credit to the Non-Credit Language Courses summer programs. Each university having its own policies to recognize courses done in other institutions, it is the participant’s responsibility to contact the appropriate administrative department of his home university to get a recognition following the successfully completion of a UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses summer program. For these purposes, the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses send the Certificate of Course Participation with the final grade, as well as the course outline, to the participant’s home university.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

7. How do we register?<\/h2>

To register, fill out the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses summer programs’ registration form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

8. How much does it cost to attend a summer linguistic program at the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses? <\/h2>
\n

The programs offered at the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses are designed to meet the participants’ specific needs. The final cost varies depending on the chosen program and options. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

9. Are the books included in the programs fees?<\/h2>
\n

Yes. The pedagogical material used for the course is supplied by the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses. However, students have to provide their own writing material (notebooks, pencils, pens, and so on) and dictionary.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

10. Does UQAM offer any kind of financial support to take part in the Non-Credit Language Courses’ summer programs?<\/h2>
\n

UQAM does not offer financial support to students in this context. However, a group of ten (10) students or more, accompanied by a representant, may benefit of a discount. 11. How can we pay the bill?  <\/h2>

Payments can be made by credit card (Visa or MasterCard).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

12. What happens if we have to cancel our registration?<\/h2>
\n

13. What accommodation options are available during a language stay?<\/h2>
\n

Participants can arrange their accommodation through the Non-Credit Language Training programs, such as staying in a university residence or with a host family. Typically, accommodations are available from 4:00 p.m. the day before the course begins until 11:00 a.m. the day after the program ends. Additional nights may be booked under certain conditions. 14. What is usually included in the recommended accommodations?<\/h2>
\n

Each participant generally has a private bedroom in a shared apartment equipped with a kitchen that includes a refrigerator, a stove, and basic cooking utensils, as well as bedding and towels, and a closet. Internet access is also provided.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

15. Does UQAM provide transportation from the airport to the residences?<\/h2>
\n

The UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses do not provide this service. However, we would recommend these travelling options to get to downtown Montreal from the airport:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bus: The Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Montr\u00e9al (STM)’s 747 bus, also called \u201c747 Express Bus\u201d, is a service provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, between Montreal-Trudeau Airport and Montreal’s central bus terminal (Berri-UQAM metro station). A round trip ticket costs about $20 CAD (exact cash amount required for on-board payment). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxi: A cab fare from Montreal-Trudeau Airport to downtown Montreal (regardless of the destination in Montreal) costs about $45 CAD (one-way). Please note that taxis in Montreal are reputed dependable and safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16. If one wants to drive to UQAM, is it possible to have access to a parking lot on the campus?<\/h2>
\n

Of course. Once the appropriate fees are paid (55$ CAD\/week), the car can be left in one of the UQAM exterior parking lots. To reserve a parking lot, participants have to go to room PK-M255 (located in the President-Kennedy building\/hall, open Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 9:30 PM) to pay (BY CREDIT CARD OR INTERAC) the entire fees, to sign the rental agreement, and to receive the parking access card (TO HAND BACK AT THE END OF THE STAY).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

17. Is a visa required to take part in a summer language program at the UQAM’s Non-Credit Language Courses?<\/h2>
\n

As the UQAM Non-Credit Language’s summer programs are non-credit academic programs lasting less than six (6) months, participants do not need a student visa to take part in any summer programs. However, depending on the country of origin, participants may need a tourist visa to stay in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At UQAM, the Non-Credit Language Courses’ team send a letter of acceptance to all participants once the required program’s fees have been paid (these will be refunded if the visa is denied). Please note that the said letter of acceptance is necessary to apply for a visa or eTA.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

18. Is the program’s fees refunded if a visa is refused to a participant?<\/h2>
\n

Students whose visa application is denied are given a refund according to the refundable fees policy (with the exception of registration fees and reservation fees in residences), provided that they send the official letter of refusal to the UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

19. Is it possible to visit the United States while in Canada?<\/h2>
\n

It depends on the participant country of origin. Obtaining a visa may be necessary. If one is considering going to the United States while attending UQAM Non-Credit Language Courses’ summer programs, it is recommended to refer to the American Immigration Authorities and to take the required steps beforehand to ensure having the relevant documentation upon arrival in Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

20. Is Wi-Fi Internet access available in UQAM?<\/h2>
\n

It is possible to have access to Wi-Fi in most UQAM buildings. The Wi-Fi service is being progressively extend to all university buildings, but UQAM central buildings guarantee Wi-Fi Internet quality service.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

21. How much money should be provided for the stay in Montreal?<\/h2>
\n

This is a rather difficult question to answer as it depends on what participants plan on doing once in Montreal. Some students having a substantial budget may plan to do a lot of shopping, travelling and doing many activities while others are constrained by a restricted budget. Although Montreal is recognized as one of the most affordable cities in Canada, a restaurant meal may nevertheless cost from CAD $5 to more than CAD $50, depending on the selected restaurant.
Here is a sample of the approximate value of various products (in 2017):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Movie theater ticket: CAD $7 – $16
Coffee in coffee shops: CAD $2 – $5
Liter of gas: CAD $1.50
Liter of milk: CAD $2
Beer in a bar\/restaurant: CAD $5 – $10
Bus or metro ticket: CAD $3.50 (CAD $30 for 10)
Newspaper: CAD $2
Someone who wish to eat in restaurant on a everyday basis should plan to spend at least CAD $40 per day. If the intention is rather to cook, a CAD $75 – $100 budget per week is to be considered.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

22. What is Montreal weather like during summertime?<\/h2>
\n

https:\/\/www.theweathernetwork.com\/ca\/weather\/quebec\/montreal<\/a>Montreal is hot and humid in the summer. Heat waves often occur in July. During this period, temperatures sometimes reach 30 degrees Celsius and above. Nights are a bit cooler but, nonetheless, can remain quite warm. That being said, few summers are a bit cooler or rainier than others. It is therefore advisable to bring a few warmer clothing items, and a raincoat or umbrella.
